Moyenne lies approximately 6 km east of Mahé, in close proximity to Round, Long and Sainte Anne Islands. Historically, the island was a favoured haunt for pirates and as such is steeped in history and legend. The island is scattered with pirate graves and ancient ruins, with associated tales of buried treasures and the ghosts of whom still remain to guard it. It is a privately owned island and as such offers no hotel accommodation; however, it is most definitely worth a visit. The island is covered in two thirds of all endemic palms, trees and shrubs to be found in the Seychelles, while giant granite boulders frame the beautifully white sandy beaches.

Due to its relatively small size, a leisurely stroll around the island would take no longer than an hour. Aside from trekking, the island is also a great location to explore from below the water, offering brilliant swimming and snorkelling opportunities. Moyenne is home to more than 100 giant tortoises, which can usually be seen roaming freely around the island. It also has a population of approximately 2000 birds, including around 400 endemic turtle doves, populations of which are continuing to grow.
