You will begin by crossing Adventfjord by an open Polarcirkel boat, a 10 minute trip to Revneset, before heading into an area which boasts many of Svalbard’s highlights. Lush grasses and mosses provide fodder for the Svalbard reindeer, historical remains from early mining at Advent City about and memories of early Arctic hunters are in the air.
The tour will take you up Louisdalen towards Carolinedalen. At the top of the valley you will turn and make your way up onto Forkastningsfjellet. From here you can enjoy magnificent panoramic views of the whole of the Isfjord where sparkling glaciers lie in a row, stretching from the Nordenskiöld Glacier in the north to Trygghamna in the west.
This is a moderately difficult hike over approximately 10 kilometres, with a climb of about 400m in altitude. The terrain is fairly easy, although the ridge along Forkastningsfjell is quite narrow. Guides will bring a light lunch and warm drinks which you can enjoy during the trip.
The ascent and descent are at a reasonable gradient. The tour may be changed due to weather conditions. All participants are requested to dress warmly, wear hiking boots and a hat and mittens. This trip is subject to weather conditions, especially with regards to high wind or large waves during the boat transfers. The Polarcirkel (RIB) boats are quite small and you may experience some bumpy seas and sea spray. The tour is not recommended for people with back problems or pregnant women. Participants must speak and understand English or one of the Scandinavian languages.
