Are you ready to challenge yourself? This combined kayak and hiking trip is a fantastic experience, taking you from sea level to over 1,000m above!
Everybody who visits Longyearbyen takes note of this mountain; it is possibly the most photographed landmark in the area. An imposing figure, located across the Adventfjord, directly in front of Longyearbyen, Hiortfjellet rises from the fjord like a sleeping giant.
After a safety briefing you are ready to begin this adventure. You will cross the fjord in double kayaks, paddling approx. 3km to Hiorthamn. It is from here where the real challenge begins: hiking up the rocky mountainside passing former miner’s homes and workings. The hike is hard work, but the amazing panoramic views from the top will make it all worthwhile. After lunch, you will return down the mountain and paddle back to Longyearbyen.
This is a demanding trip. Participants do not need any prior kayaking experience, but must have a good fitness level. We recommend good hiking boots, windproof clothing, hat and mittens. Be sure to bring binoculars and your camera. Participants must speak and understand English or one of the Scandinavian languages.
