This hybrid-electric boat trip takes you to the mighty Tuna and Von Post Glacier in the heart of the Tempelfjord. Along the way you will pass ‘Villa Fredheim’, the home of the old local legend Hilmar Nøis. You will also plan to make a stop at the beautiful bird cliff Diabas, where you can get a close view of its thousands of nesting birds. On the north side of Sassenfjorden a fantastic view of the mountain Tempelfjellet awaits. All of this whilst seeing the glacier in the distance getting closer and closer.
The trip starts by rounding Revneset outside Longyearbyen, to then head east towards Tempelfjordenon a brand-new comfortable 14.9metre closed hybrid boat. After approx. one hour you will reach Tempelfjord where you will approach the glacier. On reaching the front, you will use the boat's electric motor to get a completely silent propulsion and make use of the onboard underwater drone to give you an impression of the life beneath the waves.
Tunabreen has an incredibly beautiful glacier front; the beautiful blue colour is a contrast to the otherwise brown landscape and mountains. The Tunabreen glacier is an active glacier, which you may be lucky to see calve. If the glacier has calved a lot in the last 24 hours, there will also be a lot of ice in the water in front of the glacier.
Participants must bring warm clothes, hat, and mittens, as you will be spending time out on the deck.
