Madagascar is one of the most unique islands on our Planet - isolated in the Indian Ocean for 88 million years; left to evolve in completely different ways to the continents of Africa and Asia which it left behind. Approximately 90% of all the flora and fauna found in Madagascar is endemic to the country and its offshore islands. Perhaps its most famous wildlife are the lemurs, which in the absence of monkeys and other competitors, have adapted to a wide range of habitats and diversified into an incredible 103 species and sub-species.
Chameleons, baobabs, leaf-tail geckos, giraffe-necked weevils and more, are amongst Madagascar's other endemic treasures. This guide introduces what you might be able to see with Aqua-Firma's wildlife in some of the most important national parks and reserves in the country.
