M/V Akademik Shokalskiy along with Spirit of Enderby is one of just two remaining 50 passenger Russian Research ships-the smallest of the ice-strengthened polar ships in operation. In Aqua-Firma’s pioneering days of polar travel our experiences of guiding and exploring Antarctica and the Arctic were forged on these compact, functional and friendly expedition vessels.
The focus of all voyages aboard Akademik Shokalskiy is to make as many onshore landings as possible. Experienced naturalists and on board guides will share their knowledge and ignite your passion for the Polar Regions through informative lectures and escorted landings.
Originally designed and built in Finland for polar and oceanographic research in 1984, Shokalskiy is capable of reaching the nooks and crannies that many larger ships cannot. She is equipped with a small fleet of inflatable Zodiacs, facilitating onshore landings and deeper exploration of polar landscapes and its wildlife.
